Climate change

Recycling our way to a better climate.

Acting on climate change is an imperative for all of us, and at Tarkett we’re accelerating our efforts in the areas where we can make the biggest positive impact. We focus relentlessly on adhering to the principles of a circular economy, continually working to reduce the impact of our products at every stage of their life cycle.

We start with designing out waste. That means optimising the materials we use and making sustainable choices wherever possible. Like our AirMaster Gold carpet tiles, which contain on average 80% positively defined recycled content; or our ICONIK 100 vinyl collection, which contains on average 69% recycled content.

Recycling to act on climate change

We’re always on the hunt for opportunities to swap out traditional components with our own precious waste as well as those of other industries. Circular economy is also about keeping products and materials in use, meaning creating long-lasting products. But even though our durable flooring is designed to last, we always keep easy end-of-life recycling front of mind. Because recycling is essential to reducing climate impact.

Recycling waste into valuable new materials emits less carbon than using energy-intensive processes to extract and transform virgin materials. It also places less of a burden on the world’s natural resources and, of course, avoids valuable waste heading to landfill or generating CO2 emissions through incineration.

Recycling to act on climate change

We are also making our manufacturing processes as energy efficient as possible, which is why 28% of energy consumption comes from renewable energies (e.g. biomass, geothermal, solar). We use 100% renewable electricity in many of our factories and we improve energy efficiency through changes and optimisation of our manufacturing processes. We aim to reduce our emissions* by 30% by 2030 compared to 2020.

We know you, our customers, want more than just a great looking floor. You want flooring that meets your sustainability targets and your environmental aspirations.

Recycling to act on climate change

While we’re leading the way in our industry with our commitment to a circular economy, our work is far from done. It’s why we’re continually looking for innovative new ways to turn rubbish into valuable resources. We’ve set ourselves a target of reaching 30% of recycled materials in raw materials purchased (in volume). And we’re determined to get there.
